The Vision of Common Core
A short video about the vision of the Common Core State Standards.
CMS Options
In slowly developing the K12EdResources.com site, I’m looking for a CMS or front end that will deal with the user management, will host an attractive front page and a decent blog interface. I really like the look and feel of WordPress, but I don’t think interfacing with some custom code work sounds easy nor do I have the time to invest in this area.
So, in looking on the internet for a decent interface with CodeIgniter, some interesting CMSes popped up. Ionize and Fuel. So far I’m in the initial stages of playing, but they both seem to interface with CodeIgniter work since they’re built with CodeIgniter.
Evernote
Have you tried Evernote?
Evernote is a notepad extraordinaire. It’s web based but includes free apps for your PC, MAC and mobile device as well as a web clipper for your computer browser. It’s basically like a big box for all the notes you could dream of, but allows you to organize them into different folders, stacks and adding your own tags while keeping them all synced between all of your devices. It saves custom searches to make finding your notes a breeze as well as the amazing ability to search into notes – even text in pictures!
I use it from everything from being my recipe book to notes at work and todo lists. Check it out, I’m a big fan.
Wiggo
If you’re looking for a cool Web 2.0 tool, check out Wiggio. It allows you to create groups and share files, calendar, status updates, hold virtual meetings, etc. Basically communicate with everyone easily. Each member can elect to receive an e-mail, text message, etc., to be notified that there’s a communication. My explanation is scratching the surface as to what this site does. I’m using it to plan for professional development sessions with other instructors. I hope to use with the Milken Educators to facilitate communication across the state as well as with a district committee.
I think they’re adding features as they continue to develop and grow the site. Currently you can sync a group’s calendar with your own – I’m doing so with Google’s calendar.
You can hold virtual meetings for free which include teleconferencing, online whiteboard, ability to share your screen, etc.
Very cool! Check it out!
Photography
I’ve had an account here for awhile now (a free account) to house some photos and see what happens. They’ve been making some changes recently and now have custom webpages for their clients. Check mine out: http://bruceduplanty.photoshelter.com/
